Our Nursery

We grow mostly native plants for our garden, habitat projects & plant sales by appointment.

Overview

We sell plants to the public during three annual sales and during tours at our Pollinator Plant Stand. Organizations and nonprofits can contact our garden manager for project inquiries. Garden Manager, Evan Peterman - garden.hallberg@gmail.com

Spring and Fall Sales

Upcoming sales are listed below. An appointment is required for the sale in April and October. To help manage limited parking, eight appointments are available every 30 minutes from 9 am to 4 pm. After your plant sale appointment, you can explore the gardens on a self-guided tour.

Summer Sale - Open Gardens Day Celebration

Every year, towards the end of June, we have a plant sale at our Open Gardens Day Celebration. This is the one day a year in which no appointment is required to enter the gardens.

Pollinator Plant Stand

During tours (April - October) We offer a small selection of host plants (caterpillar food) and nectar plants for sale at our Pollinator Plant Stand near the nursery/shade house.

This is a self-checkout station only available during tours (cash, card, check, Venmo). We do not curate a pant list for the Pollinator Plant Stand.

As a small team, we are unable to sell plants to the public outside of annual sales and the Pollinator Plant Stand.

Upcoming Plant Sales

A list of plants for sale is available three weeks before each seasonal sale.

Amenities

  • Drinking water is not provided.

  • Restroom: We have one restroom which is an ADA portable toilet near the information kiosk. The path to restroom is pressed gravel—subject to minor bumps/holes from gopher activity.

  • Picnic Tables: Three large picnic tables are located near the information kiosk at the entrance.

  • Accessibility: Entrance/restroom is flat and covered with pressed gravel—subject to minor bumps/holes from gopher activity. Nursery is up a short but steep incline or a few steps. Most of the tour trails navigate dirt paths on a moderately sloped hillside.

Resources

  • Educational lists, information, and plant tags are provided during the plant sales.

  • HBG Volunteers at the sale to answer questions and offer assistance.

  • Books for Sale: A hand selection of our favorite books is available during plant sales (cash, card, check, Venmo).

  • Tour and home activities can be found on our Printables page.

  • Butterfly Activity - April to June is the most popular time to visit for a tour when the large swallowtail butterflies are most active. Later in the year, we see more species of butterflies and life cycle stages (eggs, caterpillars, chrysalis) but less abundance of large butterflies in flight. Plan for success: visit our Butterfly Information page for current activity and to learn about the butterfly life cycle.
