Nature Journaling Pipevine Swallowtails and their Host Plant!

Nature journaling is more than just a creative way to connect with nature. It is also a powerful tool for learning. In this class, we will combine sketches, notes, and hand-drawn diagrams to delve into the fascinating world of Pipevine Swallowtails at Hallberg Butterfly Gardens! Participants will get the opportunity to observe and record directly in their own journals, like the first naturalists. Guidance will be given on nature journaling tips and drawing techniques, but the focus will be on each participant being their own scientist and artist. By the end of the class, you will have several journal pages filled with notes, sketches, and observations.

Here are some reasons why you should be excited about this class:

Limited group size=go deeper, less distraction!

One of a kind location=legacy of conservation and accessible biodiversity close to town

Balance between structured lesson and exploration=learn from Marley and discover for yourself!

This is what we will cover in the class:

Basic biology of Pipevine Swallowtail butterflies and their relationship to their host plant

Nature journaling basics

How to draw even if you think you can’t

How to cultivate curiosity and creativity in your journal
